Pure New Zealand Mascarpone, Date and Orange Ice cream makes Top 12 at the Cuisine Artisan Awards:

(20 Feb 2013) Cuisine Artisan Awards WINNER: PURE NEW ZEALAND ICE CREAM - MASCARPONE, DATE and ORANGE ICE CREAM

Cuisine magazine has revealed its list of the country’s top artisan products in the annual Cuisine Artisan Awards, in association with Caffe L’affare.

More than 60 entries were received this year, and a panel of food experts then whittled the field down to the top 12 products.

Included in the top 12 is Wanaka's Pure New Zealand Ice Cream gourmet flavour, Mascarpone, Date and Orange.

Richard Bullock and wife Tracey, together with their dedicated team in Pure New Zealand Ice Cream's Wanaka kitchen, produce 24 flavours (and counting) of ice-cream, sorbet and gelato.

Mascarpone, Date and Orange Ice Cream is unique to Pure New Zealand. Inspired by a date and orange tart that he likes to serve with homemade mascarpone, Richard has created a spicy, luxurious ice-cream that's a dessert all on its own.

He says the secret to the dense ice-cream is low overrun during production, leaving it with less air. From chocolate ice cream using 70% Belgium chocolate to berry ice creams loaded with fruit; Pure New Zealand Ice Cream's flavours are intense and original. Their ice cream is also free of stabilisers, emulsifiers, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours - in short, it's the good stuff only.

About the Cuisine Artisan Awards:

Artisans produce handmade or individually crafted goods, generally on a small scale and often according to traditional practices. To be eligible for the Cuisine Artisan Awards, businesses must have an annual turnover of less than $5 million. The awards are open to all products excluding olive oil, boutique beer, wine, spirits, coffee and cheese, as they have their own industry awards.

The winning artisan producers will be featured in the March issue of Cuisine, on sale 25 February, and all of the artisans will sample their winning products at the CuisineCheeseFest held at The Langham Auckland on Wednesday 27 February.
